New Year’s Party Food for Joy and Prosperity

After the elaborate roasts and trays of appetizers you may have served over the holidays, it can be challenging to come up with more recipes for a New Year’s celebration, particularly if you’re entertaining many of the same guests. Aside from champagne and charcuterie, which I know you already have covered, here are my recommendations of what to enjoy as you ring in the new year.

Good Luck Foods

Pork Meatballs with Basil and BriocheFrom good health to good fortune, we each have our wishes for the days ahead. Turn to foods that symbolize these wishes as a way to share good luck with everyone around you, such as pork for progress and prosperity, extra-long soba noodles for longevity, or greens for wealth. Even if you skip the rest, you might want to enjoy 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight for luck in every month of the new year. Each culture has its own traditions, but I say indulge in them all for a year overflowing with goodness.

If you decide to incorporate pork, try these pork meatballs with basil and brioche.

Stuffed Vegetables

Stuffed JalapeñosIn the spirit of entering the new year with as much joy and prosperity as possible, let your vegetables overflow with a delicious stuffing. Though seeded, these jalapeños still have some bite. They also have crunch, three kinds of cheese, fresh herbs, and chorizo, because extra pork at a New Year’s celebration might just bring extra prosperity.

Here you can find the recipe for my stuffed jalapeño skins.

Citrus Cocktails and Mocktails

Spicy Blood Orange MocktailThe holiday season may be coming to a close, but winter is here to stay. If you’ve been reading Thirsty Radish for a while, you know that I love citrus indulgences when the days are crisp. For a new year filled with excitement and warmth, try this spicy blood orange drink which has cocktail and non-alcoholic versions.

Happy New Year!
